Rekey vs Flipio
Flipio is a small open-source utility that converts text between layouts when you tap Option. Rekey detects text typed in the wrong layout and corrects it automatically.
Short version: Flipio is manual: tap Option and it converts the selected text or the last typed word between your installed layouts, character by character. Rekey is automatic: it recognises the language of each word and corrects the ones typed in the wrong layout, across 34 languages. Choose Flipio for a minimal, open-source, on-demand converter; choose Rekey if you want mistakes fixed without noticing them first.
Flipio does not try to guess the language. When you tap Option, it maps each character of the selection — or of the last word — from one installed layout to the other, and pastes the result. That makes it predictable and works with any layout pair, but you have to spot the mistake and trigger the fix yourself.
Rekey scores every finished word against the languages of your installed layouts using a dictionary and letter-sequence statistics, and replaces only the words that are clearly in the wrong layout. It switches the input source too, so the next word comes out right.

Catches mistakes for you
Rekey recognises a word typed in the wrong layout and fixes it without a keystroke, then switches the layout.
Leaves the clipboard alone
Corrections are typed in place, so whatever you copied stays on the clipboard.
Undo and exclusions
Cmd+Z reverts a correction and teaches Rekey the word; terminals and code editors are excluded by default.
